The Wulfgard Summer Althing was called to order by our noble chieftain, Laird Wulfric Grimbeald, and the first order of business was to welcome everyone to Pennsic XXXII and thank them for their participation in this year's war.

Wulf then moved on to old business by calling Matthaeus Blades into the chiefly presence and then presented him with his official membership material. As many of you may recall, membership materials were introduced along with a new induction ceremony at the Spring Althing. The membership materials consist of an attractive, suitable-for-framing membership certificate and a convenient, wallet sized, laminated-for-your-protection membership card. Wulf then called Tamarlaine of Wulfgard and Erin of Wulfgard into the chiefly presence and presented them with their membership materials and moved on to new business.

Next Laird Wulfric told those assembled about a strange tradition that had started a few years ago and presented the much anticipated third edition of the authentic collectible Wulfgard Haggis series. This year's edition is the William Wallace Edition. The numbered haggis which include a certificate of authenticity signed by the chief himself were then presented to each member of the household in attendance.

Laird Wulfric then asked if there was any other new business and Grimolfr Ormalfrson stepped forward to present with 4 hand cast pewter coins that he'd made in class just that day with the Wulfgard badge on them. Wulf was very touched by the gift and immediately huddled with Grimolfr for a private consultation. Upon emerging from this huddle, Wulf then presented one coin each to long time Wulfgard friends Maugi the Traveling Musician who plays the guitar and sings and to the bagpiper Chamberlain. Both musicians have a long standing friendship with our Clan and have provided much wonderful entertainment. (Maugi was later spotted on a Pennsic street corner with his Wulfgard coin prominently displayed in his gratuity bowl).

The meeting was adjourned and followed immediately by the Scottish Rebellion. Many, many old friends as well as a number of new ones stopped by to share a part of their Pennsic with us and to sample this year's Wonder Meade. Visitors included: Barbara and Heirich; Graham and Dawn along with a friend of theirs; Cormac, Cynwrig, and Julianna (members of our local shire); members of Clan McKay (who were excellent neighbors) as well as Og the Red and a member of household from Canada who was greatly impressed by the Wonder Meade.

One of the first songs of the evening played by the bagpiper Chamberlain was "Scotland the Brave", to which Adrienne and Erin danced the Macarena, and they literally stopped traffic as an unnamed gentleman passing by our camp on a golf cart squealed brakes and spit gravel in his efforts to stop and back up to watch the ladies dance. Two encore performances followed.

Other Events at This Year's Pennsic

The following is just a mish-mash of other things of interest or importance that happened during this Pennsic.

Special thanks goes out to our land agent Adrienne. This year's negotiations were particularly annoying and drawn out due to a certain group not knowing what the heck they wanted (Ed. Notes: We dont want to say any names here but thier initials are Raven Spittle), but Adrienne persevered and secured an excellent spot for the Wulfgard encampment.

Household fighters Wulf and Adrienne, were contrated to fight with the Dark Horde at this Pennsic by Lord Ragnarr Dragonheart . Our patron was most pleased by the the performance of our chief and freki. Their payment consisted of the following: (3) 6-packs of woodchuck cider, (2) pieces of 9 ft. 1 ¼ shaved rattan that is wonderfully straight, (1) liter of ginger liquor, (2) rolls of duct tape, and $60 cash to fund a shopping trip.

Our fighters performed so well that our patron has already stated that he would like to hire them for the next Pennsic. Wulf and Adrienne also attracted the attention of other potential patrons, and there is the possibility of a 3-way bidding war developing for their services next year

Jacob Wulfricson, son of our noble chief and chieftess, participated in Youth Fighting at Pennsic and did the clan proud! In one round, Jacob killed every opponent who challenged him (The marshal declared him dead to give the other kids a chance.) Jacob was also spotted leading his unit of fighters and forming killing pockets that proved most effective. Jacob's 12th birthday is approaching and on this special day, he will register his device, which features a bear and the colors blue and gold. Jacob has also chosen an SCA name while at Pennsic. He is now known as Bjorn Wulfricson.

Clan Wulfgard did not add any new members at this Pennsic, but we do have two new associates members. Many of you have not met either of these good gentles as one lives in Colorado and the other just met up with our clan at this Pennsic. Diane of the Outlands (the one who lives in Colorado) is a friend of Adrienne's who has spent two Pennsics camping with Wulfgard. She has a wonderful sense of humor and is quick to offer a hand to help out.

The other new associate is known at Itci and also found his way to Clan Wulfgard via Adrienne (Keep up the good work, girl!). Itci is a friend of Adrienne's boyfriend Matt, who found himself in need of camping space at Pennsic at the last minute. He was granted this space in the Wulfgard encampment in exchange for being the camp slave, and what a wonderful slave he turned out to be!

On the last Friday of war, Clan Wulfgard was the subject of a surprise attack by the Ninja Bard! She entered our camp under the pretense of searching for another group (The old "I'm lost," ploy) ,which, being the courteous and chivalrous gentles that we are, we fell for hook, line, and sinker. Before we quite knew what was happening, she whipped out a song and proceeded to entertain us. At the conclusion of her song, she asked for a token to prove she had been there and after several minutes of spirited discussion, the Clan decided what that token should be. The Ninja Bard was a bit flummoxed by our counterattack as she remarked that no one had ever argued over what token to give her. By the time she left our camp she had what is probably the most unusual token she has ever received—a genuine Clan Wulfgard collectible haggis from the William Wallace edition.

*************Special Bulletin***************

Clan Wulfgard is proud to announce that our very own Lady Daria of Atlantia has been elevated to the rank of Court Baroness by King Logan of Atlantia in a field ceremony for her service to Atlantia.

Three cheers for Baroness Daria!

Vivat! Vivat! Vivat!

And finally, this Pennsic featured the first ever period fireworks class a spectacular fireworks display on the last Friday of war. Wulfgard had an excellent view of the display from our camp, and Wulf spontaneously began singing the National Anthem, which was quickly picked up by all in our camp and spread to several surrounding blocks. It was an especially fine end to this war.
