The meeting was sort of called to order around 10 pm by the Am Bladíer, Laird Thorgard inn Sterkí

Laird Grimolfr Ormalfrson was called into the chiefly presence. Laird Wulfric then recounted some of the many things that Grimolfr has done over the past year;
helped get fighters on the field, repairing vehicles and armor, sharing his knowledge of chain maille and Viking wire knitting through teaching, and re-keying locks. In recognition of this service and much more, Laird Wulfric and Lady Theodora inducted Grimolfr into the Order of the Wolf’s Tail. He is the fourth member of this order.

As the Am Bladíer read the certificate to be presented to Grimolfr, it was discovered that the kilt checker was obviously broken as there was some gender confusion present in the said certificate involving the pronouns his and her. Laird Wulfric then declared the certificate to be a promissory note as Lady Theodora promised to correct the gender issue.

Before moving onto the next item of business, Laird Wulfric mused about how the household has grown over the years and how some of our members have developed a
desire to become more independent. He then called Laird Thorgard inn Sterkí and Lady Alexandria of Wulfgard into the chiefly presence.

Laird Wulfric announced to those gathered that Thorgard and Alexandra had decided to embark on a great journey by forming their own household, the House of Thorgard. The Chief and Chieftess gave their blessing to this endeavor and declared House of
Thorgard a protectorate of Clan Wulfgard.

The Chief then read the text of the protectorate agreement, which enumerated the responsibilities of both parties. Laird Wulfric and Lady Theodora signed
the document. Laird Thorgard and Lady Alexandra added their signatures, and Lord Cynwrig Wyn, a well-respected friend of Clan Wulfgard, witnessed the document.

Be it known to all by these presents we Laird Wulfric Grimbeald and Lady Theodora Quennell, High Chief and High Chieftess of Clan Wulfgard do receive our clansmen and kinsmen Lord Thorgard Inn Sterkí and Lady Alexandra of Wulfgard. It is the natural order of families that a child shall grow and take a helpmate and make a home, and so it is even now. Having shown the virtues worthy of a Chief and Chieftess and having
sought our blessing to form a Clan of their own, We are well pleased to give our blessing. As two clans of one line we are resolved to unite the efforts of our respective households toward the collective defense and prosperity of both with this Accord Of
Protectorate.

The Parties of this Accord affirm their truth in the purposes and principles of:

1) A common desire to preserve peace and prosperity between the two households,

2) An honorable aspiration to safeguard the freedom and individual identity and promote the stability and well-being of their members,

3) A sincere willingness to promote just and honorable relations between their members,

4) A respectful intention to consult together whenever, in the opinion of any of them, the territorial integrity, political independence or security of any member is threatened, and

5) A strong determination that an attack against one member of either house shall be considered to be an attack against all members of both houses. It is also agreed that, should such an attack occur, each household will assist the other through any action,
including the use of armed force, that is deemed necessary to restore and maintain the security and peace of their members. This may be declared temporary void in the instance that all are in agreement with regard to mercenary hire or force division for the improvement of a fighting opportunity.

Signed this 8th Day of January, Anno Societatis XXXIX, mundanely being the Year 2005.

As Witnessed By: Lord Cynwrig Wyn

But wait! There’s more.

Chief Wulfric observed that House of Thorgard is not the first branch to grow from the tree that is Clan Wulfgard, and he affirmed that the Clan would always be at House of Thorgard’s side. He then presented a gift of a Viking knife to Chief Thorgard, but this
wasn’t just any Viking knife. Here is the story of that knife in the Chief’s own words.

“The knife is a Viking scramasax. It was given to me by clan member Lady Isabel Silver the Fire Flinger. Lady Isabel had been a member of the Clan for a while, watching and helping us grow. One day she came to me and asked for my blessing to form her own household. She loved the feeling of family and unity we shared and wanted to spread that feeling under her own banner, as it were. To show that she still considered
herself a member of the Clan and as a symbol of alliance with her new household, she presented me with a hand forged Viking scramasax. The knife has served as a symbol of fidelity and trust and as such it is with great pride, I present it to Laird Thorgard Inn
Sterkí as he has formed his household, House of Thorgard.

Chief Thorgard, Chieftess Alexandra, and their household then pledged loyalty to Clan Wulfgard with the following words:

Thorgard - “Wulf, it has been a long time for us. In fact, by my count it has been about 12 years since a friendship was born one Saturday in a little stone church in Bull Run, Virginia. Since that time, our relationship has grown deep both within and without of
the SCA. In the SCA, you and Teddi have been our father and mother. The first garb on my family’s back came from you and Teddi. We ate our first feast off your feast gear, and as I grew and became a fighter, my first stick of rattan came from your hand. You
accepted me into your household, showed me the way, and made me family. For this I can neither thank you enough, nor ever hope to repay you. I can only hope that as I start my own House, that I might be able to pass on a little of what you have given me. At the end of Pennsic in 1998, I pledged my loyalty to Clan Wulfgard. Here, Today, I renew that pledge, and I do so now with my own Household. From this day forth, the
House of Thorgard will make its stand with Clan Wulfgard. From this day forth, we will make that stand.

Alexandra – “Side by side, in friendship and in fellowship” (The friendship started with Mike and Libby, it does so now again)

Magnus – “Shoulder to shoulder in work and task” (Magnus is without a doubt the workhorse of the household)

Siobhan – “and back to back when it seems the whole world stands against us” (spoken by a warrior of the Household, representing our protection and stance with
you no matter how rough things may get.)

Bjorn – “Call when you have need of us” (BJ represents many talents, and we hope to be of assistance, whatever the Clan needs)

Alexandra – “Ask what you will of us.” (The assurance of the Chieftess, Alexandra, who retains in her name our history “Alexandra of Wulfgard”

Thorgard - Thorgard will answer that call” (The loyalty pledge of the Chieftain)

Eona – “and do all we can.” (even the smallest of us has something to offer, from our smallest to our greatest, we make this pledge to Wulfgard)

Lady Alexandra then presented Wulf and Theodora with a gift basket containing jam, honey, chocolate, shortbread, vinegar, and a teddy beat with an apple grenade. Our Chief and Chieftess were both moved to tears and grabbed a nearby tablecloth on which to blow their noses. Theodora especially took great comfort in this
action as the owner of said tablecloth had annoyed her exceedingly for much of the past two days.

Once the tears were dried, we moved on to old business.

Lady Adrienne MacLeod, our frickin’ Frekí, gave a report on our forces. She was most happy to report that Clan Wulfgard now has considerable reinforcement from House of Thorgard.

Bidding for the Clan’s services for Pennsic XXXIV began before the first battle of Pennsic XXXIII. Wulf directed Adrienne to contact the bidders and remind
them that the magnificent forces of Wulfgard can be very affordable.

Wulfric then delivered the Go Comón’s report in absentia. Otto the Confused has re-activated a group where he is now serving as the herald and deputy exchequer. Otto proudly reported to the Chief that they have built first Wulfgard artillery that lobbed
an apple at a human target 50 yards away. (Ouch! That’s gonna leave a bruise.) Otto is hoping to come visit in March.

Lady Theodora added that Alric, last year’s patron, told her that he intends to bid for Wulfgard’s services again if his baron, Baron Don Quinn Kerr of the Barony of St. Swithin’s Bog doesn’t place a bid of his own.

The Chieftess then informed everyone that the Súmaire, Lady Caitilín inghean uí Laoghaire, had been having contractions for several days, and they were now getting stronger. (Since this meeting, Baby Ian has become the newest member of Clan Wulfgard, but he sure took his time about it. See the mailing list for more details.)

No further business was brought forth, and the meeting was called to a close by the Am Bladíer somewhere around 11 pm.

Report made by Lady Hrefna of Wulfgard
Muninn of Clan Wulfgard

P.S. The Muninn has requested that clan meetings not
be held directly after any event that we are doing so
much work at. Lady Hrefna was so tired she could not
read some of her own notes. This request has been
granted. High Chief Wulfric.
