Clan Wulfgard Policies - Leadership

We are led by our High Chief and High Chieftess, who act as both the Clan's political and familial leaders. It has often been said that Clan Wulfgard is the family we run to when running from our real ones. In some sense this is true. We don't always choose the families we are born into, but at some point we have all chosen to be Wulfgard. This is why the definition of the High Chief and High Chieftess is not an easy task. Sometimes they are friend, sibling, confessor, or parent. The role must evolve for each occasion.

The one thing the High Chief and High Chieftess is NOT, is an elected official. The clan is a benevolent dictatorship. A clan member's opinion and input is always considered when a decision is being made, but the High Chief and High Chieftess are the ultimate official and final word. If there are times when a decision can't be made between the chiefs, then seniority has its rewards. The senior clan chief is the deciding member of the leadership. There does not have to be both a High Chief and a High Chieftess, and they are not required to be a married couple.

~Terms of Leadership~

The High Chief and High Chieftess is a position that is held for life. The exceptions to this is when they voluntarily resign or must be removed by the officers because of mental or physical defect. When clan leadership changes the new Chiefs have the right to remove or reassign all clan officers.

When the High Chief or High Chieftess voluntarily resigns or is no longer able to maintain the position (due to death, illness, etc.), the remaining member of the leadership may continue as the clan leader alone. The remaining chief may choose another co-chief if desired.

~Successor Documents~

The leadership will always have a declared successor. This declaration will be a separate document signed and witnessed by at least two household officers not named in the Successor Document. The Successor Document may be ratified at any time and for any reason as long as it continues to have the signatures of two officers and the High Chiefs. The most recently dated document supercedes all others.

~Removal of Chief~

Removal of the Chiefs because of mental or physical defect requires a unanimous vote of ALL clan officers. In the event that not all officers may be physically present for a vote, a signed declaration may be entered by the absent officer as long as two other officers have been in contact verbally with the absent officer. Before a vote can be considered for removal, the following requirements must be met in their entirety.

1. The High Chief and High Chieftess are incapable of making legal decisions as described by the clan bylaws, or as prescribed by mundane law in extreme cases.
2. Permanent physical or emotional injury to themselves or their clan is eminent.
3.A successor and/or the successors legal guardian is available and supports the removal.

~Administering the Oath of High Chief & High Chieftess~

Conferring the leadership of the clan requires two clan officers to witness and administer the oath of High Chief and High Chieftess. When both a High Chief and a High Chieftess are stepping down together. The senior chief accepts the resignation of the junior chief first. Then the two representatives officers accepts the resignation of the remaining chief.

Being a benevolent dictatorship means we only pay attention to what we want to anyway.
