Who is Clan Wulfgard?
By High Chief, Laird Wulfric Grimbeald

We are Clan Wulfgard, a household within the Society for Creative Anachronism. Our organization is patterned after a Hiberno-Saxon household rather than a medieval hierarchy. We are led by our High Chief and High Chieftess, who act as both the Clan's political and familial leaders. Below them are the clan members and below them are the associate members. Although our clan structure is based on that of the Scots/Norse we do not limit members to those personas. We are Scots and Vikings, Welsh and English, Mongols and Irish. We are fighters and cooks, clothiers and craftsmen, artists and artisans. We encourage newcomers and are always happy to let new people and visitors get to know us.
We are a large extended family, where members support each other in both the SCA world and the mundane world. We take care of our own and others. We have helped each other move, marry, give birth and bury our dead. Just like a "real" family we have made a lifelong commitment to "be there" for another member in time of need. Members are highly individualistic yet pledge a part of their freedom to the Chief and Chieftess who lead them, for it is only through the Clan that they lead.
We are an active household. We plan activities to involve all members and on more than one occasion have been known to "over-run" an event. We encourage our members to adopt a persona and immerse themselves in their life. We strive to learn through research and recreation how our "past selves" really would have lived. Perhaps more importantly we teach and share this information with others both within and outside the clan.
By tradition Clan Wulfgard camps as a group. We set up as period a camp as possible with a grand entrance and the Wulfgard banner announcing to all "We are here!" We are a mercenary household whose warriors have been employed from Caid to the East Kingdom. While our sword arms may be for hire we are selective in who we chose to hire out to. Our members wear medallions and favors bearing the Clan Badge: sable, on a triskelion of wolves heads argent a torteau, and bordure argent. The bordure symbolizes the unbroken circle of the family bond we share, the wolves heads symbolize the three tenants of the household; honor, hospitality, and courage, and the torteau represents the red heart of passion that beats within us.
